Koktebel


     The Koktebel village is situated at the toe of the extinct volcano Kara-Dag. This is one of the natural wonders of the Crimea. Kar-Dag is not only a place of the interest of Koktebel and the Crimea. It is a worldwide place of the interest.

     Koktebel is translated from Turkish as "a blue height land". In the early 1st century B.C. legendary Cimmerians used to settle here.

     The Kara-Dag reserve pearl is a Holy Mountain (576 m) named after Aesculapius, the great mystic and healer. From the above height, the widest panorama of the surrounding areas can be viewed. In the good weather, you may even see Ai-Petri and Chatyr-Dag spurs on the southern shore of the Crimea.

     On the left, the Holy Mountain turns into the low mountain range of "Kok-Kaya" (Blue Mountain), abruptly lowered toward the sea shore. At the toe of the "Kok-Kaya" there is a Malchin cape " a natural extension of the Kara-Dag and the Koktebel Bay.

     Koktebel harbor is famed by the pebbly beaches made up by the different volcanic rocks nodulized by the sea. Among them there are semiprecious metals placers: greenish-blue jasper of Kara-Dag, green chrysoprase, solely many-colored agates; a nacreous shimmer of the opals adjoin a lactic cacholong & chalcedony whiteness. However, the cornelian of rose, almost aquarelle tint of the both intense red scarlet and blood-red color shimmering into somatic red-brown one are really world-renowned to be of the Koktebel origin.

     The Kara-Dag panorama viewed upon the arrival at Koktebel is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of the Crimea. Unusual effective look may be observed at sunset. Shaping fantastical silhouettes in the pink and red sky, a sharp sketch of the blue and violet Kara-Dag rocks had arisen.

     From the observing platforms of the Karagach range and its Royal Couple, Throne, and the Retinue " that became a so-called visit card of the mountain range, and an unforgettable view of the Golden Gate is opened up before your eyes. You will be fascinated by this wild, majestic, and charming beauty. Nothing compares to such a beauty of Kara-Dag all over the Crimea.

     Here is a unique microclimate molded by the warm sea, lower mountains, forest, and the steppes. It stipulates to be available as a clear air sprinkled by the wormwood aroma and dewy sea breeze. Otuz valley is also nice by its vineyards where the raw stuff is cultivated for producing famous vintage wines and cognacs at the "Koktebel" wine factory. The best cognac "Kutuzov" is barreled for more than 25 years.

     Wonderful pebbly beaches, clean dry air, unrepeatable landscapes, beautiful fruits, grapes, wines, and cognacs " all of it is Koktebel.

     The most abundant time is August-September as the Velvet Season starts: the sun is not so sultry, the sea fondles with its caressing heat. Grapes, peaches, and other fruits are ripening.
